Hi Church family,
A little while ago I asked for some feedback on which books of the bible we as a church wanted to go to next. The theme that really stood out is that we don’t often go to the Minor Prophets much in the Bible, and that it would be good to work through them. So that is where we are going!
So this Sunday, we begin a new six-week short series throuhg the minor prophets which I have called: Major Voices from the Minor Prophets.
The minor prophets in the Old Testament are not “minor” because they are unimportant, but they are short. But they also give us some of the most interesting diagnoses of our heart in all of Scripture. They make us ask questions like “Am I stagnant in my faith?”, “Do I have the right priority in my life?” and “Am I just giving God the leftovers of my life?” So this should be a great series for us to mull over.
Over the coming weeks, we will look at: Hosea: This is a perfect book to help us move from Easter into the Minor Prophets as it talks about what it costs God to redeem us. Obadiah: This book looks at the danger of standing aloof when other people suffer. Zephaniah: Helps us see how we can transition from a “stagnant spirit” to being a people God exults over. Haggai: Gives us a diagnosis of modern burnout and misplaced priorities. Zechariah: The beautiful picture of our justification where God removes our filthy clothes and providing pure clothes instead. Malachi: Challenges our sometimes half-hearted worship.
So join us this Sunday as we dive in at both Wonga Park and Mernda.
Blessings Chris P
