Dear Wonga Park family,
Ever wished you could open your Bible and actually understand what God is doing with that passage and even to be able to share it with others? If so, then join us for our brand-new “How to Read Your Bible for All It’s Worth” mini-course running over Zoom, 8 – 9 pm every second Wednesday, starting 27 August. The cost is only $10, which covers the cost of all the materials.
You can sign up via this link below or you can sign up in the church app, under the “What’s On” tab. https://wpcrc.churchcenter.com/registrations/events/3083622
This event is open to everyone and we have already had other churches express interest in joining us. So please feel to invite anyone you think might be interested!
Why join in?
– One hour, four evenings – designed for busy people. – Zoom means PJs and couch are totally acceptable. – Live teaching with breakout room workshops so you actually practice the skills you are learning. – Lays the foundation for our upcoming “Teach the Bible” course that will give you the skills to run a growth group or youth group Bible study.
What each night will cover
Night 1 – Wednesday 27 August: We’ll zoom out to see the Bible’s big picture, six act story, from Creation to New Creation, then survey the six main genres (law, narrative, poetry, prophecy, gospel, epistle). By the end of the hour you’ll be able to sketch the big storyline and know how to approach reading each genre.
Night 2 – Wednesday 10 September: Next we dive into the nuts and bolts of reading in context. You’ll learn the Observation-Meaning-Application (O-M-A) grid and get to practice it in a group or pair on Luke 15. We hope this will help experience all those “Aha” moments that are so precious when you read Scripture.
Night 3 – Wednesday 24 September: Jesus said the Scriptures point to him, so we need to understand exactly how that works. So on this night, we will trace how the Old Testament covenants and key “types” are fulfilled in Christ. Then in group time we will work through how the Exodus points forward to the Lord’s Supper. Our hope is that this will equip you to recognise how Old Testament passages show you Jesus.
Night 4 – Wednesday 8 October: On our final night together, it is time to put everything together. In a small group breakout workshop you’ll work through either Colossians 1:15-23 or 1 Samuel 17, and attempt to craft a short devotional or bible study outline yourself. As a group you will get to share your work and get friendly feedback from the other course participants. Our hope here is that you will start feeling equipped to help others read the Bible too and join our next “Teach the Bible” course a bit later this year.
Time: 8 – 9 pm (sharp start, sharp finish) Platform: Zoom Cost: $10 (This helps us buy, print and prepare all the coursework for you). Remember to bring a Bible and a notepad. Homework: Light there will be a short reading or worksheet between sessions. Recordings available if you miss a night.
So register now so you won’t miss out!
